AICHR Sets 2022 Plan To Focus On 11 Rights

PHNOM PENH: The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) has launched an Action Plan for 2022 focusing on children's rights, the rights of persons with disabilities, business and human rights, prevention of torture, freedom of religion, and freedom of expression, The right to clean water and sanitation, climate change, human trafficking, the right to health services and the right to citizenship.

According to a press release on the outcome of the 34th Meeting of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), the 34th meeting reviewed the approval of five brief reports on AICHR activities in 2021. The human rights situation of some ASEAN member states continues to discuss many of the conceptual documents of AICHR's priority programs planned for 2022 and 2023. Report on the Monitoring and Evaluation of the AICHR 5-Year Plan (2021-2025) and the Outline of the 10th Anniversary of the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration and the Phnom Penh Declaration ASEAN Human Rights Declaration.

In addition, the working group also discussed the relations with external partners between AICHA and the European Union on human rights policy, communication with civil society, representatives of Cambodia, together with AICHR Thai and AICHR Malaysia serve as a monitoring and evaluation committee to provide AICHR's dialogue partner status to civil society organizations (Screening Panel) and on other issues such as the establishment of working groups, the launch of action plans and other strategic frameworks for Promote and protect certain rights.

The 34th meeting of AICHAR was successfully concluded and all members of the meeting expressed their appreciation to the Cambodian representative to AICHR for leading the two-day meeting to good results.

"Representatives of all ASEAN countries in AICHR will work together to implement AICHR's priority action plan for 2022 in the direction of promoting human rights in the ASEAN region," the statement said.

The 34th Meeting of AICHR will be held on video for two days from 30-31 March 2022 with the participation of the Minister Delegate accompanying the Prime Minister and the Chairman of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee as the Cambodian representative to AICHR Mr. Keo Remy will be chairing the 2022-2024 and the participation of representatives of all ASEAN Member States and the ASEAN Secretariat for Human Rights.

Over the last three years, the AICHR has organized its programs and activities on a wide range of topics related to human rights, including business and human rights, the environment and human rights, access to education, gender equality, disability rights, freedom of religion and belief, and human rights.
